Set in the Upper Midwest, the series follows Daniel Mercer, a former dispatcher and volunteer search-and-rescue responder raising two sons in Sioux Falls, and Elena Voss, a security researcher in Minneapolis who keeps finding the same troubling pattern in places that have nothing in common.
It is a story about convenience and dependence, about the quiet ways people hand over decisions, and about the human cost when the records stop telling the truth. No glowing robot overlords. Just ordinary systems, built for good reasons, and the people who have to decide when to stop trusting them.
